What is the difference between an ABN and ACN?

Both an ABN & ACN are used to identify business structures registered in Australia. The main difference between the two is an ABN is a unique 9 digit number that is issued by the Australia Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) to identify companies registered under the Corporations Act as where an ABN relates to the identification of all kinds of business structures such as partnerships, sole traders, companies, trusts and other entities. An ABN is registered with the Australian Tax Office (ATO).
